Ukraine needs your help
Communists and oligarchs want to turn back the clock on my country's
democratic success, says ousted prime minister VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO.
Stand by us, Canada
I
cannot but feel proud about the changes that have taken place in Ukraine
over the past year and a half. After the last presidential election
in November, 1999, we were able to bring in economic reforms and slash
social debts. During our tenure, for the first time in our modern
history, we saw real growth.

Subject: The "family" is about to ditch
"papa"?
Following are some interesting comments about this article:
The "family" (i.e. the Don's closest "oligarchic" entourage) has
decided that he must go in order to save their system. The scenario
involves two phases:
(1) the elimination of Yushchenko as Prime Minister (hopefully on
April 10 or soon thereafter)
(2) the appointment of Tihipko as Prime Minister and 5 months or
so of "activism" on his part to prepare public opinion in his favour.
(3) the resignation of Kuchma sometime in September, followed by
Tihipko taking over as acting President and packaging a win at the
Presidential election to come.
Tihipko has strong Russian contacts, and Putin's role in this scenario
will be important.

MOSTOVAYA
To be honest, when preparing the holiday issue, Zerkalo Nedeli reporters
spent a lot of time trying to decide which one of Ukrainian women
should get the chance to speak to the newspaper readers on March
8. Quite unexpectedly, korrespondent.net gave us a clue by publicizing
the results of its Most Influential Woman of Ukraine poll. Thanks
to 74% of anonymous respondents, it is Yulia Tymoshenko who bears
the palm... >>>
