Equipping offices and homes with billiard rooms has recently become very fashionable. As a consequence quite a number of firms appeared offering ready to use or custom-built billiard equipment. According to the words of Lyudmila Savchenko, executive director of Federation of Billiard Sport in Ukraine, decent quality of billiard equipment offer for example such firms as "Green Glade", "Dinaris" (Kyiv), "Layen" (Simpheropil). Their commodity and services may vary in their cost from $3 thousand to $50 thousand. However in some particular cases the price may be even higher it being known that the lion's share of the equipment 's cost is the price of the table that in turn depends much on the material the table is made of. One can buy three types of pool tables in Kyiv today: out of wood pulp (within the bounds of $1000), out of composed material ($1500 - $2000) and out of asp ($3500 - $6000). Besides some of the firms produce custom-built exclusive tables especially designed and styled for home furniture. Their prices vary from $10 thousand up to $ 50 thousand and sometimes even higher. Moreover prices on tables for Russian billiard are as a rule 20% increased. Specialists comment that low price category tables do not allow full satisfaction of the game - the ball "swings" into different directions when it rolls and determining rebound angels happens to be difficult and low-probable - when cushions are gummy "anything is possible". Well, for a proper game middle price category tables suit OK. However this equipment has few chances to become perfect embellishment of an apartment because it almost always has standard look and the quality of the material refinement is not very high. Following the point of view belonging to billiard specialists high price category tables are ideal for home interior. In general these are high-quality and fine material tables. As masters producing billiard equipment at Green Glade club say this game's experts order octagonal tables designed in correspondence with their furniture with center pockets. The most fashionable at this moment though is exquisite "billiard classics" - standard forms and very high quality refinement with using of various types of wood, marble etc. Any billiard expert knows the extreme importance of a good high quality cue to play with. Those who are professional or semi-professional level players never use someone else's cue - whenever going to a club or to friends to "roll the balls for a while" they always have their own cue with them. For such players sectional cues convenient for transporting are available with expensive leather cases in a single set. Their price varies from $50 to $2000 and depends on the quality of hand bar refinement (amount and sort of wood used for making it) and on screw junction quality as well. Specialists state that one has to assume the following details when purchasing a cue. Weight and height are chosen in an individual way. In addition it is necessary to check up that a cue is even. For this purpose one may place his cue on a horizontal surface (a billiard table for example) and roll it a bit to see how densely it touches the surface and whether the end of cue shows an arc. Besides for a complete billiard set one also needs a set of balls, triangle (for setting the balls) and cue support necessary for making a strike when wrist support becomes very complex or is impossible at all. All this costs up to $1000. |
