Best cookie - Passazh Coffee House

kpnews - Viktor Suvorov
Cookie monsters love Passazh Coffee House.

Cookies in the capital are omnipresent. They clutter the shelves of grocery stores, clog up endless kiosks in metro underpasses and are consumed by the kilo. Not only are they everywhere, but they are also almost universally bad.

It seems that, in order to be a cookie in Kyiv, one must pass through the staletizer, that feared, dangerous machine that turns even the freshest cookie into a piece of rock. It is a well-documented fact that in Kyiv, cookies bought within minutes of baking are often unbearably hard. The problem extends from kiosk culture to high-end restaurants. Health professionals who once blamed Ukraine's problems with dental hygiene on poor public awareness have now begun to blame the phenomenon on stale cookies. It is nothing short of a public crisis.

Therefore, the winner of Kyiv's Best Cookie award should be viewed not only as a good cafe, but also as a good Samaritan. It is doing its part to fight the dominance of the staletizer and help Kyiv's dental health in general.

So, kudos to Passazh Coffee House, one of the many little cafes tucked into Passazh, just off Khreshchatyk. While its name wins no prizes for originality, few will dispute the towering dominance of its cookies. They go above and beyond not being stale. With more than 10 types of cookies made fresh every day, you just can't go wrong. They are generally of the butter, sugar cookie variety, and come with an assortment of nuts and fillings. A couple chocolate varieties are available too. Particularly tasty are the chocolate horseshoes, complete with jimmies.

The cookies go great with a cup of coffee at the cafe or can be taken out. The staff even wrap the cookies up in a fancy bag with a sticker. And with prices starting at Hr 5 for 100 grams (about 7 cookies), you won't spend very much for Kyiv's freshest and best cookie.
