Call it funny or call it sad - in the end it was just plain predictable that our readers would vote Kyiv's women as the capital's greatest tourist attraction.
In an odd bit of irony, the closest challenger to Kyiv's very alive women was a bunch of dead guys. The Kyivo-Pechersk Lavra, famous for housing the mummified remains of monks within its underground caves, finished second in one of the closest votes in weeks.
Chalk the result up to voting demographics. Men cast about 80 percent of the votes in this poll. All the votes for Kyiv's women were cast by guys. Meanwhile, no women voted for Kyiv's men. Even more surprisingly, neither did any guys.
Most of the votes for the women seemed to be half in jest. One guy put a (-: next to his vote. Another playfully cast his vote for "Chicks 'n Kiev." Another proudly noted that he had married one of these "tourist attractions."
Another reader cast his vote for Kyiv's general ambience, but added what he described as his "sexist bastard" answer: "Every male visitor has said the best attraction of the city is the multitude of extremely attractive women and the ability to stroll on Khreshchatyk on a summer's evening and watch them (lustfully)."
Not surprisingly, the picturesque and lively Andriyivsky uzviv received a large number of votes. "Whatever you want to see and do, this street offers you everything, from St. Andrew's Church to a panoramic view of Podil," one reader penned. "Tourists can also take a rest on the street's nice cafe and restaurant terraces."
Comparing Kyiv to other major cities, one reader found the city's prominent attraction to be its relaxed environment.
One reader almost poetically responded: "No question about it - the city's greatest tourist attraction is St. Michael's Square on a beautiful spring weekend afternoon; the spires are gleaming in the sun, the sky is blue, the dresses of the brides who have come to have their pictures taken are impossibly white, and there are banners of many colors flying in the breeze. It is a colorful sight that shows the city at its best."
Do you think this guy offers tours?
