SEVEN THOUSAND YEARS of TRYPILLIAN
CIVILIZATION |
| |
|
|
| |
Trypil's'kaCulture is one of the most
explored and well-known one of the IV-III millennium B.C. It
was |
| |
 |
created,on scientists' opinion, by
local tribes of Neolithic Age and those who moved here from
Balkan peninsula. The Trypil's'ka Culture was discovered by
the Czech archeologist Vikentiy Khvoika more than a century
ago at Pravoberezhzhya of Ukraine. This event was of major significance
to the scientific world. Some monuments of ancient culture were
unearthed. The culture proved to be so much different from that
of the "primeval" society, we got used to seeing at the museums,
that it almost called for rewriting the whole history of modern
civilization. |
| |
|
| |
Right next to the megapolitan capital
of Ukraine - Kyiv, samples of the material culture, that harmoniously |
| |
 |
co-existed with the rest of the world,
were uncovered. These samples proved, that we are only beginning
to understand the role and place of man on the Earth, the level
of thinking that had existed in the period, which scientists
refer to as the Stone Age. We believe it more likely that our
ancestors lead complicated and wise life, rather than advocate
the view that they lived in the "wild age". Having settled on
the major part of Pravoberezhzhya (the Dnipro right-bank territories),
trypillians were the first and the oldest grain-growers on our
land. They grew almost all the grain-crops and cultivated crops
known in Ukraine. They also were cattle-breeders. |
| |
|
| |
The Trypillian population of the Copper
Age existed during the third, late period of the Neolithic Epoch.
|
| |
 |
It means that is had to live through
all three (Lower, Middle and Upper) phases of the Epoch. It
had to endure socio-economic and ecological crises, that broke
out at the turns between these periods. Such grandiose events
had to be remembered and passed on from generation to generation.
One thing is obvious. The motifs related to the global cataclysm
are well represented in the remains of the Trypillian society
(themes of sculptures, patterns and the ornamentation technique
itself). |
| |
|
| |
Those patterns include helical bodies
of dragon serpents (often depicted next to different cosmic
|
| |
 |
symbols) in thefirst place. There
are also beaks of birds (sometimes clearly owls, hawks or crows)
formed by the same helical compositions where circles and ovals
become transformed into bird eyes. These mythical animals with
canine (wolf's) maws, heavenly flying dogs (wolves) and defoliated
trees; these figurines of women resting upon model thrones with
dragon snakes twined around them are the motifs of the holy
marriage. There was the symbol of the solar eclipse drawn on
a piece of pottery was the sun that collided with the horns
of the crescent moon also. Therefore, there are grounds to believe
that part of the material pertaining to the Trypillian society
as well as to other cultures of the Copper and Bronze Ages could
have depicted the ancient concept of global cataclysm. |
| |
One more amazing thing about Trypillya
is that the fragments of the ancient Trypiltsi's cultural heritage
jibed with the concepts of the India's Aryan tribes and had
numerous direct parallels with the systems of knowledge of many
ancient cultures from different parts of the planet: from the
highland Altai to the Sonora desert in Mexico. |

THOUGHTS ON TRYPILLIAN CULTURE |
 |
Repeating the great Greek historian Herodotus, the well-known
Slavic scholar academician Borys Rybakov called the Middle Prydniprovia
region, the right bank of the ancient Borysphen from the annalistic
rivers of Ros' and Tiasmyn to Kyiv, the GOLDEN KINGDOM. He maintains
that the history of this triangle spans one and a half thousand
years. In fact, our ancestors lived in this land since time
out of mind... Thousands of books have been written about the
Golden Kingdom. Thoughts of historians and those who love this
land are sometimes disputable.
ACADEMICIAN B.RYBAKOV: "As it is known,
the nucleus of the Rus state (which is termed "Kyivan Rus" in
our nomenclature) had been a comparatively small region of Middle
Prydniprovia - from Desna to Ros... Even a cursory glance at
the ancient history of the Slavic world suggests that during
two millennia, preceding the emergence of Kyivan Rus, Middle
Prydniprovia had been the most developed and historically active
region... The main nucleus of the "Russes' land" along Dnipro
and Ros fits completely in the aura of our ancient motherland...
People of Middle Prydniprovia built "sacred roads" to the Greek
cities and put stone idols with cornucopias along these roads.
Somewhere in the center of the golden kingdom on Dnipro there
must be the main sanctuary of all farmers, where the sacred
heavenly plow had been kept. Much can be clarified in the religious
history of Kyivan Rus through addressing the ancient forebears
of Rus... " |
DMYTRO
FEDORENKO, YURI HUZENKO: "Objectiveness requires that
we study the historical and cultural treasures of the Ukraine's
population not from the Scythian time and not from the Trypil's'ka
and Cherniakhivska cultures and not according to the stereotypical
tradition of several centuries to premise on the records of
Kyivan Ukraine-Rus. We should start from the time when basic
distinctive features of the Paleolithic and Neolithic people
started to transform into certain particular characteristics
of ancient Ukrainians. The most probable timeframe for the ancient
Ukraine can be set between the seventh and the first millennia
B.C. The antique Ukraine may be defined by the linguistic proximity
and close relationships among the majority of tribes and ethnic
groups as well as by mythological and demonological, folkloristic
and ethno- pedagogical unity. There had been written records
and several types of script, military units and large formations,
religion and beliefs (polytheism), temples and other signs of
the ancient statehood and culture of Ukrainians, who had been
ahead of all known nations and cultures of that time..."
"... Since the third millennium B.C., on the territory of modern
Ukraine the literacy had existed (there had been at least 9-10
alphabets). Among those there was the first in history vocal
alphabet of ancient Ukrainians, that had emerged even before
the Trypil's'ka Culture and later was imported to Finikia and
Hellas. ...It is the civilization of the Neolithic Ukrainians,
that founded the culture (literacy, language, even beliefs,
as well as myths, legends, tales and epic poetry) of many civilizations
of the world. ...Inscriptions of the Trypil's'ka Culture and
Ukraine- Rus, decoded by the Ukrainian bibliographer and linguist
Susloparov Mykola Zakharovych, proved that ancient Ukrainians
of the Trypil's'ka Culture are our direct forebears."
MYTHOLOGY SCHOLAR J. CAMPBELL: "The
fourth stage (30-10 thousand years B.C.) opens with the mythology
of a naked goddess and the mythology of cave temples. The richest
finds belonging to the first of the two turned up in Ukraine,
though the area extends to the West of Pyrenees and East of
the Baikal Lake. Therefore, Ukraine may be encircled as a mytho-genetic
area... A very important sample of the earliest known swastika
was found near Kyiv in Ukraine, in Mizyn. It was engraved on
an ivory figurine of a flying bird. In the Buddhist art this
symbol is associated with the spiritual Summer of Buddha..."
TRYPILLIA RESEARCHER, WRITER DOKIA HUMENNA
(USA): "Ukraine had been the centre of vast spaces of
Eurasia, where the myths, that became the momentum of mankind,
emerged. They were based on the matriarchal communities that
had lead settled life for tens of millennia. ...Population of
the Trypil's'ka Culture age was very numerous. The Trypillian
tribes populated the territory so densely, that their settlements
stood 3-5 kilometres apart, and sometimes as little as half
a kilometre. These peaceful tribes knew no strife between themselves
and did not have any attack or defence weapons. Their settlements
were situated on open places near streams or rivers. They protected
themselves against predators by way of herding their domestic
animals into their villages. During two (three?) thousand years
of their warfare-free existence Trypillians created brilliant
culture, that stood out against the background of the drab then
Western Europe and swampy territories north of Ukraine. ...This
mark of the Hyperborean Trypillia is forever engraved on the
mentality of our people." |
