The weekly "Hot Line" reports the recent data in the computer market. On the whole, the fall marked the growing demand for the personal computers
The Intel processors remain the most popular and account for 80% of the market. Among them Celeron and Pentium III account for 44,3% and 34,2% respectively. The Pentium II is practically leaving the stage and its market share has dropped from 4,2% in May to 0,9% in October.
In July the computer installation based on the AMD Duron processor appeared. Presently its popularity is growing among computer assemblers. The "Hot Line" database reports that 10% of the offered for sale computers contain the processor. The PCs based on the Athlon account for 4%.
The previous generation of the AMD processor, namely K6-2/K6-III lost its acceptance and their percentage decreased from 15% in May to 10,9% in October. However, the AMD's position is quite stable and 16,9% of the computers were installed with the AMD chips.
The gradual reduction of the PC average price goes in tandem with the cost reduction for the separate components. During the last 6 months the share of the expensive computers (over $800 including a monitor) has diminished from 21,9% to 16,2%. The highest demand is as before for the computers worth $400-$600 (47,2%). 63,7% of those have the Celeron processor installed. The PCs worth below $400 are installed with the out-of-date processors, like Pentium, K6, Cyrix, IBM).
About a half of the offered computers go in set with a monitor. The situation with monitors is as follows: 15" display (70%), 17"-9-10%. The 14" displays are gradually losing the market and now account for only 15,2%.
