Business Centers
By Walter Prochorenko
Kyiv and the major cities in Ukraine are starting to get their first business centers where a real business environment can ease the stress of dealing with local apartments, institutions, institutes, etc. Still a long ways from the major European centers, or even the newly built centers of Warsaw, Prague, Moscow, and other former CIS countries, the centers that are springing up are a good sign for the business environment.

Kyiv already boasts several classy
centers led by the Horizon Towers, and closely followed by such new centers as the Millennium Plaza, Kempa Center, the Podol Center, the less expensive Silver Center, and several others. However, these are far from the mega centers of the USA, Europe, and the Far East. Kyiv and Ukraine still have a long way to go in this area.

The biggest problem right now is
filling up the centers with good clients and maintaining a reasonable income for these centers to remain viable. Ukraine still has not found its "niche" in the business world. Cities like Kyiv or cannot pretend for such honors as a financial center, a commercial center, a tourist mecca, a shipping hub, an insurance nucleus, etc. However, there is one area of expertise that seems to be growing steadily and rapidly, and that is a computer and internet development business. Perhaps, and if the government allows it to grow and prosper, this could be a ready made clientele that will eventually fill up the business centers that are being constructed. Only time will tell. However, this is an area where Ukraine could excel if only it gives it a chance to grow before smothering it in the cradle with taxes, paperwork, and bureaucracy.

In the meanwhile, we hope
the existing centers fill up quickly so that new ones can emerge and take their place among the wonderful buildings that already exist in Kyiv.
